Video tutorial

Watch a tutorial on installing SubZero Subscriptions into the theme Dawn (a free Online Store 2.0 theme). Please note that there are two additional steps covered in this written guide that are not part of the video tutorial: Making a copy of your theme and installing the customer portal link for logged-in customers.

Note: This written guide includes additional steps not covered in the video:

  • Making a theme copy for testing

  • Installing customer portal links

Widget Options

SubZero Subcriptions offers 3 widget options depending on how you want subscription options to appear in your store:

๐Ÿ”„ Subscriptions Widget (Original)

Best for: Stores with many subscription plan groups per product
โ€‹Features: Follows Shopify best practices for displaying and selecting plan options

๐Ÿ“ฑ Subscriptions (Flat) Widget

Best for: Modern stores wanting to reduce customer clicks
โ€‹Features: Displays all options at once with a contemporary look and feel

๐Ÿ”’ Subscriptions (Hidden) Widget

Best for: Subscription-only products with single subscription options
โ€‹Features: Invisible to customers, automatically adds correct subscription to cart

Installation Steps

Step 1: Create Theme Copy (Optional but Recommended)

If your store is live and collecting orders, create a theme copy to test SubZero Subscriptions without interrupting normal operations.

How to create a copy:

  1. Navigate to Online Store > Themes

  2. Find your current theme

  3. Click Actions > Duplicate

The duplicate will appear in your Theme library section. You can publish it later or redo the setup on your live theme when ready.

Step 2: Prepare Your Subscription Plans

Before proceeding, ensure you have:

โœ… Created at least one subscription plan group
โœ… Associated the plan group with at least one product

Step 3: Add Widget to Product Page

Navigate to the theme customizer:

  1. Go to Sales channels > Online Store

  2. Click Current theme (or your theme copy) > Customize

  3. Find a product that has subscription plan groups as purchase options

  4. Locate the Product information section

  5. Click Add block

  6. Select your preferred SubZero Subscriptions widget:

  • Subscriptions (original)

  • Subscriptions (Flat) (recommended for 1-2 options)

  • Subscriptions (Hidden) (for subscription-only products)

Step 4: Position the Widget

Recommended placement: Move the widget to the main content area where customers are more likely to see it.

How to reposition:

  1. The widget will initially appear at the end of the product information section

  2. Use the six dots (โ‹ฎโ‹ฎ) drag handle to move the widget

  3. Drop it in your preferred location within the product information area

Best practice: Place the widget prominently so customers see subscription options before one-time purchase options.

Step 5: Setup Customer Portal Access

Important Update: Account management links are no longer supported by default due to Shopify API changes and the new unified accounts page.

Alternative access methods:

  • Order Receipt page: Customers can access subscriptions after checkout

  • Email notifications: Optional emails (enabled by default) provide subscription management links

Custom setup available: Contact our support team if you need account management links for stores not using unified accounts.
